Generally tournament formats are 1v1 or 2v2. However there are really no limits to the number of players (during the school year we were playing at least one 4 way most days, and yes we made the obvious joke until it wasn't funny) This is a creature: At the top you have the name, then the cost of the creature In the middle you have the type of spell, then the type of creature At the bottom you have creature stats (Power then toughness). Power is how much damage the creature deals, toughness is how much it can take This is a land: You tap it to provide 1 mana or resource to pay for spells. This is an instant: Instant and sorceries are basically the same. You pay for them, play them, and discard them once their effects resolve. Only difference is that instants can be played at any time, while sorceries are limited to certain time during your turn (THese are also known as Instant-speed and Sorcery-speed) Enchantments are like Soceries, but hang around after their effect resolves (often times has an effect, such as; all creatures you control get +1/+1)

You are allowed one land drop per turn, and may any number of spells as long as you have the res for it. You attempt to use your selection of spells to bring your opponent from 20 life to 0. (Creatures for example, can attack a player for damage equal to that of their power. But the person being attacked may use his or her own creatures to block the attacker's creatures)

It is. If you've got a local hobby shop and 15 bucks to drop (bought 10 pounds I think) good thing to do

You can get boosters of fifteen or a pre-built deck of 60. Usually folks are nice about getting people into the hobby at small shops
